CUNDY’S HARBOR — Judith “Judy” M. Briggs, 75, of Cundy’s Harbor Road, died June 3 at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Briggs was born March 12, 1940, in Brunswick, the daughter of Ralph and Christine Holbrook Miller. She attended Harpswell schools and was a 1957 graduate of Brunswick High School.
On Jan. 17, 1959, she married Daniel L. Briggs, a member of the U.S. Navy. Judith became a proud Navy wife and a strong, loving mother. Outside of her home, she was employed by the Navy Exchange, Sears Roebuck, the Brunswick post office and the Times- Record.
She enjoyed playing cribbage at the Block and Tackle, and playing cards with her family. In recent years, she also enjoyed playing the slot machines at a casino. And she always enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
For the past seven years, Briggs volunteered in the soup kitchen at Mid Coast Hunger Prevention, and felt strongly about the services the organization provided to the area. She was also active for several years in the Cundy’s Harbor Fire Department Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dan; and her three children, Craig H. Briggs, of York, Rick D. Briggs and his wife, Janice Briggs, of Manchester, New Hampshire, and Lisa Briggs-Williams and her husband, Dale, of Bowdoin. She is also survived by her sister, Joanne Alexander, of Cundy’s Harbor; her brother, Joseph Miller, and his wife, Sue, of Cundy’s Harbor; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 13, at 1 p.m., at Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick, with the Rev. Veronica Gonsior officiating. A celebration of Briggs’ life will immediately follow at the Cundy’s Harbor Community Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, 84A Union St., Brunswick, ME 04011.
