PORTLAND – Judith I. Gowen, 71, of Pine Street, died Feb. 21.

She was born in Portland March 20, 1944, a daughter of Everett E. and Minnie Irene (Miller) Horr. She attended Portland schools, University of Southern Maine and Southern Maine Community College, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. Gowen worked as an RN for Maine Medical Center in Portland for many years before continuing her nursing career at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.

Gowen was happy and uplifting around everyone; her aura could light up a room with her healing words and open arms. She loved music, gardening, butterflies and cats, as well as her family and her faith.

She was predeceased by three children, Colleen M. Garneau, Steven P. Gowen and Laurence A. Dean Sr.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna S. Gowen, of Saco; a brother, Robert E. Horr, of Portland; a cousin she referred to as “sis,” Donna Marchette, of Utah; a niece, Rebecca Horr, of Massachusetts; a nephew, Corey Horr, of Portland; five grandchildren, Melissa Paquette, of New Hampshire, Jonathan Woodbury, of Windham, Justin Woodbury, of Poland, Edward C. Croy, of Windham and Matthew R. Tracy, of Saco; as well as several great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 5, at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress St., Portland. A celebration of life will follow at 50 Lydia Lane in South Portland.
