FALMOUTH — Joyce Meredith Lynch, 82, died on Jan. 31 at the Falmouth by the Sea.

Born in Hertford, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Sarah (Whitaker) Greene and the late George Green.

At 15, she married Lou David Lynch and remained his devoted and faithful wife of over 55 years until his death in 2004.

Lynch valued education and spent her lifetime vested in learning and self-improvement. She attended the New York Telephone Developmental Studies Program and worked as a customer service representative until her retirement in 1994.

She received a certificate of achievement from John Jay College of Criminal Justice for her participation in the New York Telephone Company Program in 1979. She became a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America in 1986. She received a certificate of recognition from Saint Augustine Theological Institute in New York City, where she studied general excellence in general bible studies and evangelism. She graduated as salutatorian in 1996.

She is predeceased by her husband and daughters, Edna Rose Lynch and Karen Roxanne Lynch.

She is survived by her son, Lou David Lynch, Jr., of New York; six grandchildren; a brother, Kermit Greene, of Virginia; sister Daphne (Greene) Hollings, of Springfield, New York; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and friends.

Visiting hours were held Feb. 6 at the A.T. Hutchins Funeral & Cremation Services in Portland, followed by a Celebration of Life service and burial at the Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
