FREEPORT — Joyce Eilene Giddinge, 78, died March 25 at the Hawthorne House after a long illness.

Born Jan. 15, 1933, in Paris, she was a daughter of Charles and Hazel Toothacker Stetson.

In 1951 she graduated from Freeport High School and married Keith Giddinge later that year.

After working at the Freeport Shoe Shop until it closed, she served as a deputy clerk for the Maine Judicial Courts until her retirement.

A lifelong member of the Baptist church, she enjoyed family gatherings, gardening, cutting wood and painting.

Her identical twin sister, Janice, was her best friend and they were rarely apart.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Doris Waren, Roberta Whitman, Merian Stetson, Alfred Stetson and Janice Cray; four children who died shortly after birth, and her daughter, Susan Diane Giddinge-Fernald.

Surviving are her son in-law, Rick Fernald; two grandchildren, Amanda Lynn Fernald and Ryan Allen Fernald; two great-grandchildren, Tommy and Leah; a brother in-law, Don Cray; several nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral services were held March 29.
