ORR’S ISLAND — Joseph Edgar Wilson, 46, of Orr’s Island and Fort Lauderdale, Fla., passed away March 17 at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

He was born April 30, 1966, in Brunswick, a son of Edgar and Leneler Wilson. He graduated from Mt. Ararat High School in 1984.

At the age of 14, Wilson began what would end up being a lifelong career in the restaurant business, working first as a dishwasher and quickly moving up to cook. In 1990, he and a group of friends traveled to Florida to spend the winter. His “winter” lasted for the next 17 years. In 2006 he returned to Maine to help care for his niece, Arianna, and nephew, Cameron.

Wilson had a love of music, reading, and spending time with his many friends and family. He also was a lifelong, die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

He was predeceased by his father in 1990, a sister, Sharon Bishop, in 1992, and a brother, David Wilson, in 2005.

Survivors include his mother, of Orr’s Island; brothers Brian McGowen and his wife Rhonda of Richmond, and Donald McGowen and his wife Donna of Brunswick; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

A public memorial will be held at a later date.
