SCARBOROUGH — John William McCallum, 80, of Yarmouth, died Jan. 5 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice. 

He was born in Portland June 11, 1929, a son of Alice (Graney) and John Francis McCallum and attended South Portland schools. 

After graduating from Portland Junior College, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Upon discharge from the Army, he began his career in banking, retiring as a bank manager in 1989. 

On Sept. 25, 1954, he married Carolyn O’Donnell and made their home in Yarmouth.
They were devoted to each other, and enjoyed listening to music, spending time with family or reading together. She will remember him as a fine man who was always a gentleman.

He was predeceased by his sister Jean Robinson and his brother Donald McCallum.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn McCallum of Yarmouth; his sister Mary McCallum Hurley of West Baldwin; and many nieces and nephews. 

There will be a graveside service at Riverside Cemetery in Yarmouth this spring. 

Arrangements are by Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
