PORTLAND — John Richard Delaney Jr., 72, died Jan. 8 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
He was born in Portland on May 16, 1936, a son of John R. and Violet A. (Clark) Delaney Sr. and attended local schools.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
On July 10, 1970, he married Cecile Aurore Boisvert at Sacred Heart Church in Portland.
He owned and operated Delaney’s Burner Service for over 30 years.
He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed traveling to warmer climates and his Thursday night poker nights.
He had a big personality and loved to make people laugh.
He is survived by his wife, Cecile, of Portland; daughters, Patricia McLaughlin and her husband Daniel of Suffolk, Va., Candy Phelan of Virginia Beach, Va., Mary Jane Delaney of Portland, and Denise Delaney of Buxton; and sons, John R. Delaney III and his wife Roxanne of Standish, Chris Delaney and his wife Julie of Jefferson, Ga., and Timothy Delaney of Portland; two sisters, Arlene Colpritt and her husband Donald of Scarborough and Patricia Moran of Windham; and 14 grandchildren.
Memorial services were held earlier this week.
Arrangements are by Conroy-Tully Crawford, South Portland.
