BATH — John Gerard Lebel, 85, died May 25 at Mid Coast Hospital.
Lebel was born on March 4, 1927, the last of nine children of Peter and Josephine Lebel.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in Italy.
Lebel worked as a welder at Hardings and at BIW, a trade he both enjoyed and excelled at. He retired in 1989.
On Oct. 11, 1952, he married Margery Perkins and they were married for 60 years.
He will be remembered as a natural storyteller and great cook. Throughout his retirement he enjoyed playing pool and spending time with his family at their cottage in Damariscotta.
Lebel is survived by his wife; son, Gary Lebel and his wife, Andrea; daughters Cindy Levesque and her husband, Norman, and Terri Baker and her husband, Clyde; six grandchildren, Christopher, Renee, Luke, Liza and her husband, Nicholas, Justin and Ashley; and three great-grandchildren, Nora, Grace, Tobin and Enoch.
Visitation was held at the Desmond Funeral Home in Bath on May 31 followed by a potluck reception at the American Legion in Bath.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
