FREEPORT – John Edward Dorrington, 64, of Freeport, died June 25 at his home. He was born Nov. 15, 1948, in Freeport, the youngest of five sons of Ethel (Renfrew) and Harold Arthur Dorrington.

Dorrington enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1968 and was stationed in Iceland, Germany, Chandler, Ariz., and finally at Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, Ariz., before retiring in 1990 as a master sergeant. Dorrington enjoyed simply spending time with his family, including on Eagle Island with his niece, Jeanie Dorrington Enders. He puttered around the yard, gardened and had a love for John Deere tractors. His passion was automotive and trips to the Owls Head Transportation Museum were always worth the ride.

Arthur Dorrington, and his wife, Ashlea, of Fort Hood, Texas; his daughter-in-law, Amanda Dorrington; his three brothers, James F. Dorrington, of Freeport, Allen Dorrington, and his wife Rita, of Auburn and Robert Dorrington, and his wife, Diane, of Durham; his grandson, Layne, and many nieces and nephews. Dorrington was predeceased by parents; his brother, Harold A. Dorrington; sister-in-law Josie Dorrington, and his son Nicholas G. Dorrington.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday July 5, in Burr Cemetery, 56 Durham Road, Freeport. A reception will follow at the AMVETS Hall, Route 136, Durham.
