YARMOUTH — John D. Dalton, formerly of Yarmouth, died Dec. 16, at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, Mass.

He was born July 5, 1930,  in Lynn, Mass., to Dennis and Margaret Dalton. He graduated from Boston English and joined the U.S. Coast Guard, serving during the Korean War.

He was a longtime lobster fisherman out of Plymouth Harbor for many years, later moving to Yarmouth, Maine, where he served as harbormaster for Falmouth. He was a former police officer in Washington, D.C., and Falmouth. He served as president of the Harbormaster’s Association for Maine for many years. After retirement, he could be seen visiting any harbor along the coast of New England with his co-pilot Ginger, his beloved dog. His passion was the sea.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan Cernada Dalton; and brother, Robert Dalton.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Amiro Dalton; children, John Dalton Jr., Dennis Dalton and wife, Maria, Katy Gilblair and husband, Dennis, Judith Dalton, all of Maine, John Sheehan, Stephen Sheehan and wife, Karla, and Diane Dixon and husband, Jon;15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours were held at Cartmell Funeral Home, Plymouth, Mass., Dec. 20. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 21, at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Plymouth, Mass. Burial held at Vine Hills Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Town of Plymouth Veterans’ Services, 44 Nook Road, Plymouth, MA 02360, or Animal Rescue League, 6620 Hamilton Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15206.
