SCARBOROUGH — John “Paul” Cowgill, 82, died peacefully on May 25 at Maine Veterans’ Home.

He was born Nov. 19, 1932, to John and Anne Cowgill. As a child, he attended schools in Biddeford and graduated from Kennebunk High School with the Class of 1951.

Cowgill served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955, and was stationed in San Diego. Following his discharge, he was employed by Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for many years as a shipwright.

After retiring in 1986, Cowgill enjoyed traveling with his wife, Marjorie, attending church services at Christ Episcopal Church in Biddeford, spending time outdoors and visiting with family.

Cowgill was predeceased by his wife and by his sister, Anne Temm, of Arundel.

He is survived by his three daughters, Terry Perkins, of Arundel, Debra Miller, of Kennebunk, and Lisa Daggett and her husband, Tony, of Kennebunk; his brother, Bert Cowgill, of Arundel; and two grandchildren, Ashley Perkins, of Wellington, Florida, and Derek Henry, of Kennebunk.

A private service was to be held at the Pine Grove Cemetery in West Kennebunk. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
