TOPSHAM — John Albion Goodenow Jr., 79, died Nov. 13 at his home.

Born in Brunsiwck, Jan. 10, 1932, he was the son of John A. Sr. and Katherine Brown Goodenow. He attended Brunswick schools and worked for many years with his father at Brunswick Coal.

Goodenow later worked at Bath Iron Works for 42 years as a tank tester, retiring in 1994. During the Korean Conflict he served in the Army and was awarded the Bronze Star Service Medal returning to Bath Iron Works after his tour was finished.

On Oct. 25, 1969 he married Dorothy F. Sherman, who passed away March 16, 2010.

Goodenow enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, listening to country music, watching wrestling, and riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by his sons John Goodenow III of Topsham, Jefferey Goodenow of Topsham, and Joey Goodenow of Harpswell; stepson Steven David Bailey of Gardiner; daughter Alice Bailey Goodenow of Brunswick; sisters Dorothy Wallace of Richmond and Betty Eaton of Topsham; and 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Services for Goodenow will be private; interment will be in Maquoit Cemetery, Brunswick. Memorial donations may be made to any charity in Goodenow’s name. Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick and memorial condolences may be expressed at stetsonsfuneralhome.com.
