SOUTH PORTLAND — Joanne Chilson Hanson, 46, died March 28 at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness.

She was born in Morristown, N.J., on Dec. 6, 1962, and was raised in Avon, Conn.

She later lived in Boothbay Harbor with her parents, June and Robert Chilson, before moving to Portland.

A graduate of the University of Connecticut, she had a long career in retail, working for many years for
Polo/Ralph Lauren in Boston. Most recently, she worked at Time Warner Cable Network in Portland.

She and her husband, Edward Jr., “Ted,” enjoyed spending weekends on their boats, cruising Casco Bay and various nearby lakes. They also enjoyed traveling, particularly to their timeshare in the Bahamas.

Her co-workers and many friends treasured her sense of humor, outgoing personality and generosity.

She is survived by her devoted husband Ted of South Portland; stepdaughter, Allyssa of South Portland; siblings, Sue Bush of Hingham, Mass., Jeff Chilson of Newtown, Conn., and Judy of Whitehall, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews.

A visiting hour will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Friday, April 3, with a funeral service following at 11 a.m. at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
