FALMOUTH — Joan Leslie (Leeman) Joy, 70, died March 23 at home after an extended illness.
She was born in Brunswick on Oct. 15, 1938, daughter of Daniel D. and Marion G. (Rowe) Leeman.
In 1957, she graduated from Falmouth High School.
She married Adelbert L. Joy on June 29, 1957, and lived in Killeen, Texas while her husband was enlisted in the Army. They later moved to California where their four children were born. The family returned to Maine in 1974.
She was actively involved with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including serving as a teacher, nursery leader, librarian and relief society volunteer.
Following retirement, she and her husband traveled in their RV each year on the West Coast during the winter months. Summers were spent at their cottage on Eagle Lake in Aroostook County.
She was predeceased by her brother Gerald N. Leeman, nieces, Mary E. Leeman and Amber Thoits and her father Daniel D. Leeman.
She is survived by her mother Marian G. Leeman; her brothers, Daniel R. Leeman, Lawrence Leeman, Joel Leeman, Peter Leeman, and sister Carol Thoits; her children, Adele L. Jones and husband Ronald Jones of Westbrook, Allan L. Joy and wife Louisa of Fielding, Utah, Andrew L. Joy and wife Charlotte of Cumberland, and Alden L. Joy and wife Allyson of Windham; grandchildren, Ephrem and Esther Paraschak; Jessica, Ashley, Brittany, Abbey, Austin, Amanda, and Aubrey Joy; Connor and Makenzie Joy; Nicholas, David and Angela Greene; many nieces and nephews; grand nieces and grand nephews; and several great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews.
Arrangements are by Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth.
Funeral Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, 247 Walnut Hill Road, North Yarmouth, at 10 a.m., March 27.
