SOUTH PORTLAND — Joan F. Neill, 85, died March 20 at Seaside Rehabilitation Center in Portland.
She was born in Sussex, England, on May 14, 1924, the daughter of John and Emily (Taylor) Relf.
On Feb. 10, 1945, she married John Neill.
During World War II she served nearly four years in the British Army Artillery.
On Nov. 22, 1963, she immigrated to the United States, arriving the day of President Kennedy’s assassination.
She worked in the insurance industry for National Grange Mutual Insurance in Keene, N.H., and later as a file clerk at Peerless Insurance Company in Falmouth.
Her hobbies included cooking, knitting, and making quilts.
She was predeceased by her husband of 40 years in 1985.
Survivors include her two sons, John R. Neill and Yim of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Donald P. Neill and Yong of Clarksville Tenn., and a daughter, Helen M. White and Frank of Portland; two grandchildren, Andrew P. Neill of Goodlettsville, Tenn., and Fiona Aubian of Spanish Forks, Utah; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Jessica Neill of Clarksville, Tenn.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 3 at the Allen Avenue Unitarian Universalist Church, 524 Allen Ave., Portland.

Arrangements are by Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
