BAR MILLS — Jean Kirkwood Bennett, 91, passed away Nov. 9, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, surrounded by family.

She was born in Ossipee Valley, New Hampshire, Nov. 27, 1923, the daughter of Dana and Elizabeth (Phillips) Kirkwood.

Bennett was the valedictorian of her class at Ossipee High School and attended Nashua Business College in New Hampshire.

She was the secretary and part owner of Crest Glass Inc. in South Portland and a life member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary in South Portland. Bennett was also a past president of the Buxton/Hollis Lioness and Lions Club.

Bennett will always be remembered for her love of family, reading, and yard sales.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Walter “Wally” Bennett, who died in 2006, and a brother, Lawrence Dana Kirkwood.

Bennett is survived by her son, David Baldwin Sr., of Bar Mills; a daughter, Nancy Hendricks, of Standish; four grandchildren, Heather Mains, Elissa Turkett, Corey Baldwin and David Baldwin Jr.; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Nov. 13, at South Buxton (Tory Hill) Cemetery.
