PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Jean Eleanor Adler, 81, formerly of Cumberland, died Feb. 21 after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born in Boston on April 29, 1927, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Walker) Spears. and resided for many years in Cumberland before retiring to Walpole and Port Charlotte, Fla.
She earned an associate’s degree from Fisher College of Business in Boston and worked as a court stenographer. 
On Dec. 27, 1952, she married Robert S. Adler and were married for 56 years. Together, they raised three children, Stephen, Kenneth and Paul.
They moved to Cumberland in 1969. Subsequently, she became very involved as a volunteer for the Pineland Hospital in Pownal, eventually becoming the president of the volunteer organization.
In 1987, the family moved to Walpole, spending summers in Maine and winters at their home in Florida.
She is predeceased by her husband Robert S. Adler and her sister Mary Lou (Spears) Goodwin.
She is survived by her sons, Stephen R. Adler of Alna, Kenneth W. Adler and his wife Elizabeth of Erroll, N.H. and Brunswick, Paul S. Adler and his wife Jessamy of Scarborough; her brother Joseph Spears of Venice, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., March 14 at Lindquist Funeral Home, One Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth. A reception will follow at the Royal River Grillhouse in Yarmouth.
