BRUNSWICK — Jean B. Clifford, 90, of Thornton Oaks, died March 4, at Mid Coast Senior Health Care.

She was born in Lumberton, North Carolina, on April 6, 1925, the daughter of Murray and Claire Knauss Brisson. After graduating from Mars Hill Junior College and Duke University School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science degree, she worked as a nurse in Florida, North Carolina and in Washington, D.C., where she met her husband to-be.

In 1961, she moved to Maine with her husband, George M. Clifford Jr., who had served in the Navy, where the couple raised five sons. Clifford was active in the Topsham Garden Club and volunteered at the hospital and thrift shop. After their children were grown, the Cliffords enjoyed traveling around the world, and taking extensive trips in their RV around North America.

Clifford was predeceased by her husband in 1988, and a son, William B. Clifford, in 1999.

Clifford is survived by four sons, George M. Clifford III, of Honolulu, Hawaii, Charles B. Clifford, of Somerville, Massachusetts, John D. Clifford, of Salem, New Hampshire, and Thomas E. Clifford, of Saipan; a daughter-in-law, Cynthia Clifford, of Melrose, Massachusetts; a sister, Joyce Thomas, of Palm Coast, Florida; and five grandchildren, J.D., Laura, Will, Brittany and Sarah.

Memorial contributions may be made to CHANS Home Health Care of Brunswick, or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Brunswick.
