SOUTH PORTLAND — Jason Park Atwood, 46, son of Theodore and Joanne Atwood, died unexpectedly on Aug. 21 at his childhood home in South Portland.

Atwood graduated from South Portland High School in 1986. He later attended the University of Southern Maine and earned a bachelor of science degree in business, achieving a 3.8 grade-point average.

Atwood was a car enthusiast, and especially enjoyed Chevrolet Corvettes. He attended many races at the speedways in Beech Ridge and in Loudon, New Hampshire. He also attended car shows with his 10-year-old son, Park Joseph Atwood, whom he adored. The two also enjoyed much time exploring Mackworth Island, in Falmouth, and touring the USS Albacore submarine, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Atwood was predeceased by his father, Theodore Park Atwood, who died in May. Also predeceasing was a favorite uncle, John D. Atwood, of Boston and Orr’s Island.

He is survived by his son, Park; his mother, Joanne M. Atwood; his sister, Jennifer K. Atwood; and nephew Jack William Goettel, all of South Portland. He is also survived by his grandmother, Mary J. Angis, of Scarborough, as well as aunts, uncles and many cousins.

Visitation and a memorial service were held Aug. 25 at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel. Interment was scheduled for Highland Memorial Cemetery, in South Portland.
