SOUTH PORTLAND — Jane K. Lord, 72, of South Portland, died Oct. 10.

She was the wife of Daniel J. Lord Jr., with whom she shared nearly 52 years of marriage.

Born in Portland on May 1, 1942, Lord was the daughter of James Hamilton Jr. and Mary Elizabeth (Mooney) Hamilton. She graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy with the Class of 1960, and then attended beauty school in Portland.

She worked as a hairdresser for several years before becoming an office manager at K-Mart in Scarborough, where she served until her retirement.

Lord enjoyed spending her summers at the family cottage on Peaks Island, frequenting local restaurants and playing bingo. She also was an avid traveler, enjoying trips to Florida, cruises with family and friends, and an occasional visit to Las Vegas. One of her favorite trips was the journey she and her husband made to England to visit her lifelong pen pals. She also enjoyed touring by car, especially a two-week drive through Europe she made with her mother, a family friend and daughter Kelly in 1982.

Most of all, Lord loved her family, and was quick to welcome others into it. She was also a devoted grandmother who enjoyed the time spent with her granddaughter, Tasia.

In addition to her parents, Lord was predeceased by her brother, James Hamilton III.

She is survived by her daughters, Kimberly Lord, Kelly Lord and Carol Lord, all of South Portland; granddaughter, Tasia Lord, of South Portland; sister, Rita Farnsworth, of Florida; brother, Jack Hamilton, and wife, Shirley, of Windham; sisters-in-law, Judy Rawding, of Windham, Cindy Wilson and husband, Dave, of Sebago Lake, and Suzanne Trask, of Westbrook; brothers-in-law, Stephen Lord, of Westbrook, and Robert Lord and wife, Kandy, of Standish.
