SOUTH PORTLAND — James Lewis Kennedy Sr., 76, of South Portland, died at home on Oct. 29.

He was born in Portland Nov. 16, 1936, the son of Lewis and Dorothy Kennedy.

He retired from serving in the U.S. Navy after 20 years. After leaving the Navy, Kennedy went back to school, earning his bachelor’s degree from Westbrook College. He then worked at Fairchild Semiconductor until his second retirement.

He was a lifelong, die-hard fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. He also loved fishing for fresh water bass with his family.

He was predeceased by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Kennedy; four sons, James Kennedy Jr. and wife Wendy, Marc Kennedy and wife Rhonda, Matthew Kennedy and Kirk Kennedy; nine grandchildren, Patrick, Daniel, Marc Jr., Josh, Sarah, Benjamin, Kiley, Colby and Eric James; and two great-grandchildren, Jaden and Madison.

Visiting hours were held Nov. 2, followed by a memorial service with military honors at A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services, Portland.
