SCARBOROUGH — James E. “Jim” Hastings, 87, died Oct. 7 at Maine Medical Center.

He was born on July 27, 1922 in Bangor, a son of James and Susie Hastings, and attended local schools. Upon graduating from the University of Maine, he enlisted in the Navy.

In 1944, he married his high school sweetheart, Priscilla Greeley.

After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1944, he attended Boston University Law School and received his law degree in 1948.

Following a 15-year job with the FBI, he spent the rest of his career as general counsel for the Wackenhut Corporation in Miami until he retired in 1987 and returned to Maine with his wife. In 1995 they moved back to Florida until her death in 1998. He made his final return to his beloved Maine in 1998, and lived in Scarborough enjoying the two things he valued most – family and friendships.

He was predeceased by his wife, Priscilla Greeley Hastings; a sister, Louise Eldridge and brother, Waldon Hastings.

Surviving are his three children, Tom Hastings and his wife Anne, Cindy Cover and her husband Randy, and Barbara Sither and her husband Benn; and five grandchildren, Chris, Taylor, and Casey Hastings and Matt and Becky Sither.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Portland on Friday, Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. with a reception to follow.
