BATH — Isabel Cumming Seimer, 90, died Sept. 21 at Hill House Assisted Living.

Born in New York City to Rev. Charles Gordon Cumming and Lenore Smith Cumming, they moved to Bangor before her first birthday.

She met her future husband, Stanley J. Seimer, while attending Northwestern University for a master’s degree. They were married in 1942 and remained together until his death in 2007.

She was active in her community, and supported justice and equality through her work on the New York board of the League of Women Voters, and helped start “Court Watchers” to ensure fair decisions in upstate New York municipal courts.

Her love of Maine began by spending  summers on Great Cranberry Island as a child. She and her husband Stan moved back to Maine full-time in 2000.

She was active volunteer with local food pantries and area hospitals, most recently Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.

An avid gardener, she was always planting, weeding, or harvesting.

She was predeceased by her husband Stanley.

Surviving are three daughters, Kathie Weibel and Elizabeth Twiss of Seattle, and Priscilla Seimer of Harpswell; four grandchildren, David Weibel, Melissa Bickford, Katheryn Twiss and James Twiss; and eight great-grandchildren.

There will be a memorial service next summer at Great Cranberry Island Congregational Church.
