BRUNSWICK — The Internal Revenue Service and the AARP Foundation are providing free tax-preparation help to low- and middle-income earners in the Mid-Coast area.

Assistance with state and federal income tax returns begins Feb. 1 and ends April 15. The service is offered in Bath, Brunswick, Freeport and Topsham, with a focus on taxpayers who are 60 or older.

Bath locations are the Bath Area Senior Center, 45 Floral St. (open Mondays 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; no appointment required), and Patten Free Library, 33 Summer St. (open Wednesdays 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Thursdays 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m.; make an appointment at 443-5141).

Brunswick locations are Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St. (open Mondays 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesdays 3:30-7 p.m. and Fridays 12:30-4 p.m.; make an appointment at 725-5242), and People Plus, 35 Union St. (open Tuesday 8:30 a.m.-noon and Thursdays 12:30-4 p.m.; make an appointment at 729-0757).

Freeport’s only location is Freeport Community Services, 53 Depot St. (open Wednesday 8-11:30 a.m.; make an appointment at 865-4743, extension 120).

Topsham’s only location is Topsham Public Library, 25 Foreside Road (open Thursdays 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; make an appointment at 725-1727).

Participants are asked to bring photo identification and Social Security cards for themselves and their dependents. In addition, if they wish to claim a renter’s property tax rebate, they should bring related information.
