BRUNSWICK — Irene Edna Alden, 94, died March 30 at Brunswick Hospice.

On Jan. 19, 1916, she was born in Leeds, a daughter of John Alden and Charlotte Baker Alden.

She graduated from Monmouth Academy in 1933, and Farmington Normal School in 1935.

From 1935 to 1942 she taught at the Brick School in Leeds.

She married Gordon L. Alden in Lewiston on June 16, 1941.

They lived in Portland, Bath, and later Sebasco before moving to Beverly, Mass. where she operated a preschool home day care for many years.
 
In 1977 they retired to Sunset Gardens in Brunswick.

Her hobbies included gardening, crafts, music, visits from her grandchildren and making unique patchwork quilts.

She was a direct descendant of John and Priscilla Mullins Alden, who came to America on the Mayflower in 1620.

She was predeceased by her husband Gordon, her brothers, John Alden Jr., Ralph Alden, and Ronald Alden, and her sister, Priscilla Rote.

She is survived by her sons, Glen Alden of Ormond Beach, Fla., Leigh Alden of South Daytona, Fla., Larry Alden and wife Suzette of Brentwood, Tenn., Raymond Alden of Brunswick,  and her daughter, Jean Alden of Anchorage, Alaska; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

A family memorial service was previously held.
