PORTLAND — Police are investigating the shooting of two people in the early hours of Friday, Jan. 8.

Officers were called to 25 Rackleff St. at 1:40 a.m. to investigate a report of shots being fired and a person being shot. When police arrived, they found a man and a woman had been shot. The two were transported by Medcu to Maine Medical Center to be treated for non life-threatening injuries.

According to Capt. Ted Ross, the victims were sleeping in the same room at the time of the shooting. The man, 21, was shot in the arm. The 25-year-old woman was shot in the hand and upper thigh. Two other people were in the residence at the time, but were not harmed.

Police believe two attackers entered the home and that the crime is not a random act, since the intruders were apparently familiar with the layout of the residence in Deering Highlands.

Several shell casings were recovered from the scene, according to police.

Ross this week said there were no updates to report in the investigation. Anyone with information should call police detectives at 874-8533.
