WINDHAM — Inez Libby Morrell, 87, died Jan. 8 during a brief stay at Gosnell Memorial House in Scarborough after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born May 21, 1922, in Falmouth to Everett and Edna Libby, the second youngest of five girls. The family soon after moved to Windham and the house where Inez would live for most of her life.

She graduated from Windham High School and was married for a short time to James Morrell of Windham, with whom she had three children.

For 39 years Morrell worked at the S.D. Warren paper mill in Westbrook, retiring at age 65. For many of those years she balanced work with raising her three children with the assistance of her mother.

After her retirement, Morrell enjoyed travel and gardening and was an active member of the Windham Garden Club. She will be remembered for her independence, her tenacity and her sense of humor.

Morrell is survived by her three children, Elaine Eschholz of Brunswick, Frances Hoffman of Portland and James Morrell Jr. of Florida; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three of her sisters.
