YARMOUTH — Two men were indicted by a Cumberland County grand jury this month after car chases with police in Yarmouth and Freeport.

Dale Havens, 35, of Boothbay Harbor, was arrested May 21 on U.S. Route 1 by Officer Shawn Miles after a 45-minute car chase. He was charged with violating conditions of release, eluding an officer, speeding by more than 30 mph over the speed limit, and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.

Two officers from Yarmouth, one from Falmouth and one from Freeport were part of the chase, which ended when Havens crashed his vehicle. An unidentified woman passenger was hospitalized.

A South Thomaston man was also indicted, after being arrested in Freeport on Feb. 16. Jaycob Paquin, 26, was arrested by Maine State Police and Freeport police on charges of criminal speeding, eluding an officer, driving to endanger, and endangering the welfare of a child.

An indictment is not a finding of guilt. It is a determination that enough evidence exists to prosecute.
