PORTLAND — A garden at the Portland Museum of Art will be fully open to the public next summer, after a donation from Idexx founder David E. Shaw and his family.

The David E. Shaw and Family Sculpture Park will be accessible from High Street and open year round, according to an Aug. 5 PMA press release. The space is now known as the Joan B. Burns Garden and is open only for select events.

“We do this with great appreciation of the benefit of art to society. This park will provide public access to an artistic oasis in a cultural center of our community,” Shaw said in the announcement.

Idexx, originally based on Fore Street, manufactures veterinary diagnostic test kits. Shaw is now managing partner of Black Point Group, which has “wide-ranging interests in technology companies and public service,” according to the release.
