HARPSWELL — The waterfront Cook’s Lobster House on Bailey Island is on the market for $1.79 million.

The iconic Maine restaurant that has been operated by the same family since opening in 1955 was listed for sale in the past month by Malone Commercial Brokers.

The restaurant has received regional and national attention at various times through its history, including owner Curt Parent’s reception of a lifetime achievement award from the Maine Restaurant Association in 2012.

A blog post about the award in 2012 stated that Cook’s Lobster House employed about 100 people during the course of the year and that Parent directed shipping of more than 2 million pounds of lobster to Canada annually.

The restaurant received national attention in 1997 when it was one of seven businesses selected to be included in a Visa commercial about businesses that use the credit card processor and not its competitor, American Express.

The listing includes the restaurant, but not an adjacent building that houses the lobster shipping operation.
