NORTH YARMOUTH — A recount in the House District 109 election is planned for next week, according to Deputy Secretary of State Julie Flynn.

Republican Gary Foster of Gray lost to Democrat Anne Graham of North Yarmouth on Nov. 2 by 33 votes, 2,132 to 2,099. North Yarmouth resident Tyler Frank, an independent, trailed Graham and Foster with 365 votes.

Foster said he submitted a recount request to the secretary of state’s office on Monday, Nov. 8.

Flynn said a date has not been set for the recount, but that it would be held sometime next week. She said each candidate is asked to bring six people to recount the ballots; a person from each side works in a team, facilitated by a State Department staffer, to count the tally and agree on the results.

The candidates can observe, but cannot participate in the recount. They can also have an attorney present, Flynn said.

“I am happy to be part of the recount process,” Graham said Tuesday. “It just shows that every vote counts.”

District 109 includes parts of North Yarmouth, Pownal and Gray.
