YARMOUTH — The field of candidates seeking to replace state Rep. Melissa Walsh Innes, D-Yarmouth, thinned last week with the withdrawal of Democrat Dennis Welsh.

Welsh, a professional photographer who has served on the Yarmouth Pedestrian and Bicycling Committee, cited personal reasons for his decision to withdraw from the District 107 race.

Welsh’s decision leaves Janice Cooper as the only Democratic candidate heading into the June 12 primary. Republican Mark Hough is unopposed for his party’s nomination. The general election will be held Nov. 6.

Innes is completing her second, two-year term. She decided against seeking re-election to spend more time with her family.
