PORTLAND — The owners of the Eastland Park Hotel on High Street want to build a ballroom on Congress Square Plaza, which is owned by the city.
The City Council on Monday was expected to take up the request from Rockbridge Capital and refer it to the Community Development Committee.
Rockbridge Capital bought the Eastland last spring and is planning a $35 million renovation. New Castle Hotel & Resorts will run the day-to-day hotel operations.
A 15-member task force was formed in 2008 to study improvements to the plaza. The group, which last met in 2010, was reconvened in October to forward the proposal to the council.
