The 2008 version of the Maine High School Hockey Invitational will drop the puck Friday at the Portland Ice Arena and Travis Roy Arena. Games will also be held this year at Biddeford Ice Arena and the University of Southern Maine.
Twenty-one teams from Maine, including Cape Elizabeth, Cheverus, Falmouth, Greely, North Yarmouth Academy, Portland, Scarborough and South Portland will compete against squads from New England and Canada. Games continue Saturday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Contests including local teams on Friday include NYA’s ‘B’ squad meeting Edward Little at 2:30 p.m., Cheverus playing Tyngsboro (Mass.) at 4:30 p.m., and NYA’s ‘A” team playing Toll Gate (R.I.) at 8:30 p.m. Those games will all be contested at Travis Roy. Falmouth plays Xavier (Conn.) at PIA at 6 p.m.
Saturday at PIA, South Portland meets Mirimichi Valley (New Brunswick) at 2 p.m., Greely plays Xavier at 4 p.m., Portland meets Tyngsboro at 6 p.m., and Cape Elizabeth squares off against Moncton (New Brunswick) at 8 p.m. Saturday at Travis Roy, Cheverus and NYA’s ‘B’ team do battle at 4:30 p.m.
After a day off Sunday, play resumes Monday. Games at PIA include Falmouth versus Halifax West (Nova Scotia) at 8 a.m., Cape Elizabeth against Waterville at 2 p.m., South Portland taking on Daniel Hand (Conn.) at 4 p.m., and Portland meeting Mirimichi Valley at 6 p.m.
At Travis Roy, NYA’s ‘A’ squad meets Moncton at 10:30 a.m., then plays L’Odyssee (New Brunswick) at 4:30 p.m.
At USM, Cheverus meets Belmont (Mass.) at 12 p.m., NYA’s ‘B’ team battles Gorham at 4 p.m., and Scarborough faces Hamden (Conn.) at 6 p.m.
Tuesday at PIA, South Portland and NYA’s ‘B’ squad play at 12 p.m., Falmouth battles West Haven (Conn.) at 2 p.m., Portland meets Cumberland (R.I.) at 4 p.m., Cape Elizabeth faces Chelmsford (Mass.) at 6 p.m., and Greely battles Hanover (N.H.) at 8 p.m.
At Travis Roy, NYA’s ‘A’ team meets Hamden at 2:30 p.m.
Scarborough does battle with Berlin (N.H.) at 4 p.m. at Biddeford Ice Arena.
On the final day of action, Wednesday, Greely plays Waterville at 12 p.m. at PIA and Scarborough meets Avon View (Nova Scotia) at 10 a.m., at USM.
