PORTLAND — Police said a New Hampshire man sustained serious injuries when he was struck by a car near the intersection of Congress and Munjoy streets after the fireworks Monday night.

Lt. Gary Rogers said the 39-year-old man was transported to Maine Medical Center after he was allegedly struck at about 10:15 p.m. by a gray Dodge Durango driven by 34-year-old Jason Beaudoin of Portland. Police said the two men had an altercation and the New Hampshire man was hit by Beaudoin’s SUV as Beaudoin drove away.

Beaudoin and the vehicle were found at about 6 a.m. Tuesday, and the incident remained under investigation.

Crowds were otherwise relatively well behaved, Rogers said. There were only a few fights reported and one arrest for disorderly conduct.
