FREEPORT — Hilda M. Coskery, 86, of Freeport, died March 30 at the Halifax Medical Center in Port Orange, Fla.

She was born in Freeport on June 24, 1926, the daughter of Victor and Marietta Brewer Coffin. She attended Freeport schools and was a 1944 graduate of Freeport High School.

For many years Coskery worked at L.L. Bean, both before and after raising her family. She also worked many years at Burnham & Morrill in Portland, and at Portland City Hall.

In 1980, she opened and operated the Flying Point Campground, in Freeport. Coskery truly enjoyed this work and loved the people she met, making many friends over the years. She retired in 2003.

She also served as a scorekeeper for the Maine State Stock Car Racing Association at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for 25 years. For many years she wintered in Daytona, Fla. and for 40 years she faithfully attended the Daytona 500.

Coskery enjoyed sewing and quilting, making quilts for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed going to cruise-ins and was also an animal lover.

She was a member of Maine Obsolete Auto League and also served as executive secretary of the Maine Campground Association.

She was a member the Freeport Baptist Church, and a former member of the Thomas Means Club, the Freeport Historical Society and the Cackle Club in Bowdoin.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Cole, of Freeport; two sons, Paul Coskery and his wife Sharon, and Roland Coskery, all of Freeport; her longtime friend, Roland Foster, of Freeport, and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held Wednesday at Stetson Funeral Home in Brunswick, with the Rev. Ronald McLaughlin officiating.
