PORTLAND — Helen B. Carrick, 91, of Portland and formerly of Springfield, Mass., died at Maine Medical Center on July 1.

She was born July 17, 1921, in Springfield, the daughter of Arthur and Florence Johnson. She grew up in Springfield, attending local schools and later Bay Path College in Boston.

Carrick worked for many years as a legal secretary for various law offices, enjoyed playing duplicate bridge and was an avid golfer. She was well-known by her friends and family for her wit and sense of humor.

She is predeceased by her parents and is survived by her daughter, Andrea Gagne and her husband, Roger, of Falmouth; her son, Jay Carrick, of Gulf Port, Fla.; her grandson, Nick Gagne, of Falmouth, and her sister, Dorothy Spaulding, and her family, in Springfield, Mass.

The family would like to offer special thanks and love to Michelle Tufts, her “other daughter.”

Services for Carrick will be held at a later date in Springfield.
