Flames escape through a freshly cut roof vent as firefighters battle a blaze at 246 Coombs Road in Brunswick on Friday afternoon, July 13. The Red Cross provided support to two residents, while firefighters from Brunswick, Topsham, Bath, Freeport, West Bath, Durham, Lisbon, Harpswell Neck, Cundy’s Harbor, Orr’s and Bailey islands, Yarmouth, Cumberland, Bowdoin, and Bowdoinham took turns knocking the fire down because of the high temperature and humidity. Firefighters from as far away as Portland and South Portland provided coverage for departments battling the fire.

Firefighters work on a vent on the front roof of the building on Coombs Road. Multiple layers of roofing material, and a metal exterior, made battling the fire difficult.
