PORTLAND — The second HyperHeart 5K race and walk will be Saturday, May 30, at 9 a.m. at Lyman Moore Middle School.

The event, organized initially by two students, Lauren Paradise and Karina Boothe, who are now eighth-graders, is to raise awareness and money to fight hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.

Registration at the school at 171 Auburn St. starts at 8 a.m. The first 50 registrants will receive T-shirts. Registration costs are $20 for anyone older than 14. For children ages 7-14, the cost is $15, and $10 for children 6 and under. The race will not be timed. Anyone interested in donating can do so at http://hyperheart5k.blogspot.com/.

All proceeds will go to the American Heart Association for HCM testing and assistance.
