TOPSHAM — Harrison Jack Wakely, 89, of Topsham, died March 6 at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston.

Wakely was born Sept. 15, 1923, in Lisbon Falls, a son of the late Charles J. and Genieva Wakely Jr. 

He attended schools in Topsham and graduated from Lisbon High School. He was a member of the American Legion, Topsham Garden Club and the Maine Bee Keepers Association. 

While Wakely was in the U.S. Army’s 8th Army Air Corps as a military policeman, he married the former Doreen Hunt in England in 1945. They enjoyed more than 67 years together.

He worked as a machinist at Bath Iron Works for 45 years and ran his own greenhouse after he retired. 

Wakely is survived by his wife Doreen of Topsham; and three sons, David and his wife Christine of Warren, Mark and his wife Anita of Topsham, and Stanley and his wife Annette of Brunswick. He also leaves behind a sister, Norma Cowan, and a brother, Norman Wakely, as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his twin brother, Larrison. 

Services and burial at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Augusta will be private per Wakely’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in his memory to the Ronald McDonald House, 250 Brackett St., Portland, ME 04102; or to Lisbon Falls Community Library, 28 Main St., Lisbon Falls, ME 04252.
