Helping players fully reach their potential and experience the maximum enjoyment available is the goal of a revolutionary new program – Harris Golf Discovery Schools.

At the core of the Discovery Schools program is the availability of free, daily lessons from PGA-certified pros designed to help beginner, intermediate and advanced players constantly improve.

“With the game of golf, the learning never ends,” said Harris Golf President Jeff Harris. “Whether you’re a scratch, mid-handicapper or just beginning to play, everyone benefits from regular instruction.”

The Harris Golf Discovery School seven-day-a-week schedule starts April 19 and runs through mid-October at Old Marsh Country Club (CC) in Wells, Sunday River Golf Club in Newry, Penobscot Valley CC in Orono and Freeport CC. Clinics will cover introductory topics, short- and long-game skills as well as mental and physical aspects of the game. Many of the sessions will be topped off with a return to the clubhouse for cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Three levels of instruction will be available: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Members may sign up in advance or, space permitting, can simply walk on for a clinic before going out to play.

Harris Golf will also look to reward daily-fee players frequenting its facilities. Greens-fee golfers playing a round at a Harris Golf facility will receive a voucher good for one Discovery School clinic.

Clinics will be open to the public at a walk-on rate of $15 with private lessons available at below-market prices.

To help students hone the skills they learn at the various clinics, Harris Golf recently acquired a practice facility near Old Marsh in Wells and plans to start construction soon on a practice facility at Freeport Country Club. Harris Golf’s other two facilities, Sunday River GC and Penobscot Valley CC, have existing practice facilities.

Harris Golf Group is one of New England’s leading course management and construction companies. The family-owned firm operates award- winning Sunday River Golf Club in Newry, Donald Ross-designed Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono, Freeport Country Club adjacent to world famous L.L. Bean, and Old Marsh Country Club, which opened this past summer in Wells.
