HARPSWELL — Voters on Tuesday approved the creation of a special revenue account for the new Harpswell Bandstand in a 199-34 vote.
The creation of the account will allow the town to accept gifts and grants for programming and maintenance costs associated with the Harpswell Bandstand at Mitchell Field.
Anyone can donate to the fund by sending a check to the town of Harpswell.
The Harpswell Bandstand was an all-volunteer $70,000 project led by the Harpswell Bandstand Committee, an independent, nonprofit organization.
The Board of Selectmen is expected to accept the bandstand at its Thursday meeting. A formal dedication ceremony will be held on June 16 at Mitchell Field.
A summer concert series has already been scheduled for the Harpswell Bandstand, and costs are expected to be covered by a donation from the Harpswell Bandstand Committee.
A newly formed Harpswell bandstand committee, separate from the not-for-profit organization, will be in charge of future bandstand programming and maintenance.
