HARPSWELL — The Board of Selectmen accepted a $10,500 donation Dec. 28 from Cook’s Lobster and Ale House for the town’s heating assistance program.

The funds were raised at the restaurant’s ninth annual Harpswell Home Heating Assistance Dinner and silent auction Dec. 15.

Harpswell’s heating assistance program benefits people who are not eligible for general assistance, but whose income meets or is lower than 200 percent of the federal poverty line.

Cook’s General Manager Mary Coombs said all of the proceeds from a special menu and silent auction went toward the cause, plus 20 percent of regular food sales.

Coombs said though restaurant owners Jen and Nick Charboneau began the annual fundraiser, she took over because she can relate to the issue it benefits.

“At one time my parents needed assistance,” she said. “It’s a very good program to have.”
