HARPSWELL — After recovering from a near-fatal ski accident in March, 6-year-old Jessica Walker has left the hospital with her family and is in “great condition,” according to her aunt.

“She is walking, talking, writing, drawing, playing games, and is a very happy little girl,” Liz Simpson, Walker’s aunt, said on Wednesday. “There are still a few minor things as a result of the accident, but nothing anybody else would notice. We are going to let her go to school in two weeks for an hour a day with her mother.”

Walker sustained three skull fractures and brain trauma when she crashed head-first into a tree on March 25 while on a skiing trip with her family. Simpson said a helmet saved her life.

Due to mounting medical costs, friends and family organized a benefit dinner and silent auction for the Walker family at the Harpswell Community School on April 5. The event raised $12,000 in donations, with an additional $9,000 from the silent auction.
