HARPSWELL — Harpswell Coastal Academy has received a $1,000 sustainability grant from the Washington, D.C.-based American Forest Foundation.

The GreenWorks grant, part of the foundation’s Project Learning Tree education program, will support several projects, including a community compost research facility, a methane biodigester to produce combustible natural gas, and an aquaponics unit to produce “sale-quality” vegetables, farmed fish and fertilizer.

“These projects have been fundamentally student conceived and driven, and they represent the exemplary potential of motivated, service-driven young people,” John D’Anieri, head of HCA, said.
