HARPSWELL — An all-volunteer project to build a solar-powered bandstand at Mitchell Field is nearly complete, the project’s chairman said last week.
“We’re really moving along,” said Robert Modr, who started the project four years ago.
He said the bandstand ceiling, floor and other components surrounding the structure are nearly done, and when landscaping is finished next spring, the bandstand will be presented to the town.
Three 230-watt solar panels on the bandstand’s roof will help power small-scale concerts, he said.
Modr said the project has been completely supported by private donations and work contributed by local businesses. He said he is now hoping to sell commemorative bricks with donors’ names inscribed that will line the bandstand entrance.
