PORTLAND — Gwendolyn A. Stackhouse, 84, of Portland, died Jan. 29 at the Barron Center in Portland.

Born Jan. 31, 1929 in Portland to Henry S. C. and Katherine E. Neil, Stackhouse was a graduate of the Portland High School, class of 1947. She worked at the candy counter at Woolworth in Portland, where she met her husband, Henry G. Stackhouse, whom she married in 1952. The couple raised three children together.

Stackhouse enjoyed reading, knitting, puzzles, big band music and watching old movies. She was a member of South Coast Community Church in Scarborough.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1992. She is survived by her children; Mary Huff and her husband Clayton of Windham, Ann Richardson of Portland and Henry Stackhouse, II, of Portland; and a sister, Lois Carson of Portland. She is also survived by four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held Tuesday at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
