CAPE ELIZABETH — Gregory M. Bokor, 44, died peacefully June 2 at his Cape Elizabeth home after a valiant six-month struggle with pancreatic cancer.

Born Oct. 8, 1968, in Washington, D.C., to George and Birgit Bokor, he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Hood College in 1995. After working as a carpenter for his brother, George, Bokor made a career in the Washington, D.C. area as project manager in high-end construction.

Bokor married Maggie Hickman in Edgewater, Md., on July 27, 2003. They moved to Cape Elizabeth in 2007, where he continued his profession as owner of Matrix Construction. Bokor had accepted a new position with Red Phoenix construction in Topsfield, Mass., just months before being diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer.

Known for his bright smile and willingness to help, he was a kind, generous and  gentle soul who touched the lives of all who met him. He had a deep appreciation for the world of nature and a childlike curiosity about is revelations. He enjoyed hiking and kayaking with his wife, whom he simply adored.

Bokor and his wife shared the dream of a simple, open life in Maine; and despite the devastating blow of his diagnosis, his courage, grace and humility drew an incredible outpouring of love and support from an extraordinary community of friends and family who shared his journey.

He leaves his deeply beloved wife, Maggie, and dog, Sam; his father, George Bokor, of Clarksburg, Md.; sister Solveig Locke, of Middletown, Md.; brother George Bokor and his wife Sherri, of Boyds, Md.; and nieces and nephews Lauren Bokor and Hannah, Nick, Andrew and Jamie Locke.

A celebration of Bokor’s life will be held June 30 at Camp Ketcha, in Scarborough; see LovingGregBokor.com for more info. In lieu of flowers, the family requests submissions of brief stories, remembrance or messages on the website.
