CUMBERLAND — A fundraising dance for sixth- to eighth-graders to benefit Haiti relief will be held at the Val Halla banquet center Friday, Feb. 12, from 7-10 p.m.

Admission is $5, and the dance is open to middle school students of surrounding towns.

“We just wanted to help out the people in Haiti,” said Eliza Porter, who is organizing the event with fellow Greely High students Meaghan Labbe, Dan Mckersie, Emily Fisher and Matt Labbe, and Porter’s brother, Sam, who attends Greely Middle School.

Proceeds will likely go the American Red Cross, Porter said. She also credited Nancy Storey with allowing the teens to use the banquet center for free, and she said they would approach local businesses about donating food to the event.
