Greely seniors Kelsey Currier, Maddie Rawnsley and Katie Steinberg, joined by their families and Greely softball and swimming coach Rob Hale, are all smiles after signing their National Letters of Intent Tuesday morning.

Currier, the Rangers softball ace, will play softball at Thomas College in Waterville.

“I’ve wanted to play in college since I was in middle school and saw the college girls play,” said Currier, a four-year starter, who was also a member of Greely’s girls’ basketball state championship team this winter. “Ultimately it came down to the softball program, the academics and the distance from home. It’s a small school, kind of like Greely, and that’s best for me.”

Rawnsley, who plays softball and swims at Greely, will swim for Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts.

“I’m really excited to keep swimming and compete in college,” said Rawnsley, who plans to study health sciences. “I really like Merrimack for the small campus and the team environment. Rob (Hale) has pushed me to be the best swimmer I can be and that’s helped me with my academics.”

Steinberg, who played soccer and tennis and also swam for Greely, will play soccer at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts.

“I decided in the eighth grade that I wanted to play college soccer,” said Steinberg, who is thinking of studying some combination of film, new media and business. “Wheaton’s a very competitive team. I’m really excited to be playing with them. I played four years of varsity soccer at Greely and Coach (Josh) Muscadin pushed us really hard. It was good to be pushed that hard because that’s what I’ll find in college.”

Hale said that the three girls have a common denominator.

“They all have passion for their sport, they don’t have egos, they work hard and they all have natural leadership abilities too,” Hale said. “Katie was a nice addition to our swim team and she took over a leadership role. Maddie gave so much to our program. Kelsey was the same way.”
